About the Front Porch

Centered on Virginia Route 55 (John Marshall Highway) and Virginia Route 245 (Old Tavern Road), The Plains serves as America’s front porch to the Shenandoah Valley, vineyards, breweries, fine dining and fun. Leaving the traffic of Interstate 66 behind, the population of The Plains welcomes all visitors.

Our historic railroad house has undergone an extensive renovation in 2015 – and is now transformed into a restaurant emphasizing fresh and local ingredients with a market featuring unique treasures.

General Manager Dan Myers grew up in a restaurant family, so the Front Porch Market & Grill is his third “creation” except this one has a market as part of its culture. Finding compelling products for the market is an ongoing challenge, but nothing compared to his former job at the U.S. Customs & Border Protection Canine Center in Front Royal or at the agency’s headquarters in downtown DC.
